The 70-hour workweek conversation needs a gendered perspective. Indian women already spend 7.2 hours per day on unpaid domestic work (compared to 2.8 hours by Indian men), according to research by IIMA Prof Namrata Chindarkar based on NSSO data. If time spent on unpaid household work is added to time spent on wage-earning work, women are notching up vastly more than 70 hours in their weekly work schedule.
