Nearly a month after he left India after videos of him, allegedly sexually abusing scores of women came out, suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna returned to Bengaluru on Friday, May 31. In a move he may not have anticipated, women officers from the Special Investigation Team arrested him immediately after he landed at the Bengaluru Airport. This followed mass protests in his constituency, Hassan, a day before his arrival, where thousands of people, both men and women, turned up to demand justice for the victims who were sexually abused by the accused Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda. The SIT’s women officers arresting Revanna is more than just symbolism, which in itself is very welcome. But that the women command authority and the legal process has started on such a positive note is a great sense of validation for women all over.
