The SP-Congress alliance has been rigorously circulating a picture with SP leader and current UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on one side with a coy picture of Modi on the other. The two young leaders have been called ‘UP ke ladke’ (UP boys) while Modi has been called an outsider. While such tag lines and poll strategies are not new to the hues of Indian elections, the use of macho images of Yadav and Gandhi against an effeminate pose of Modi is an indicator that the SP-Congress campaign has given little thought to gender sensitivity and relied on stereotypes of machismo to promise people an efficient government. Check out the picture and judge for yourself!
