Safeena Wani, independent journalist and member of the Network of Women in Media, India, has won the Reporter of the Year – (Publishing) at the 10th Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) Awards.

The citation noted Safeena Wani was awarded for “her exemplary work in the field of reporting”. The award recognises her work on a “powerful investigative report from Ladakh that exposed the transfer of thousands of acres of grazing land for major energy projects. The work brought national and international focus to environmental governance, accountability, and the impact of development on fragile ecosystems and communities.”

Safeena Wani’s story in Down to Earth magazine:  Is India’s mega renewables park threatening Ladakh’s pashmina lifeline?

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) is the official alumni body of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).

Congratulations, Safeena!
