NWMI Members Among Winners at Digital Media Awards 2026
Afrida Hussain and Sanna Irshad Mattoo, members of the Network of Women in Media, India, were recognised at the The Public India Digital Media Awards 2026. Afrida Hussain won the Jagdeep Chhokar Award for Meaningful Journalism, and Sanna Irshad Mattoo won the Danish Siddiqui Award
for Photojournalism.
The Public India is a digital media platform. Afrida Hussain was recognised for her “outstanding contribution to public-interest journalism and your commitment to reporting issues of significance with integrity and courage.” The citation noted that her work “has consistently reflected the spirit of meaningful journalism, that gives voice to the people, brings critical issues into the public domain, and strengthens democratic discourse.”
Sanna Irshad Mattoo was recognised for her “exceptional contribution to photojournalism” and her “powerful visual storytelling that brings human realities into sharp public focus.” The citation noted that her body of work “reflects courage, sensitivity, and a deep commitment to documenting truth through the lens. Much like the legacy of the late Danish Siddiqui, your photographs illuminate the lived experiences of people and capture moments that shape our understanding of society and conflict.”
