R Poornima honoured for contribution to Kannada journalism

R Poornima, a member of the Network of Women in Media, India, was recently awarded the TSR Memorial Award by the government of Karnataka for 2021. The TSR Award constituted in memory of senior editor T.S. Ramachandra Rao is given to a journalist who has served minimum of 30 years in Kannada (print or electronic) journalism.

R Poornima began her career in journalism in 1981, and has worked with different media houses, including leading newspapers Prajavani and Udayavani. She was the first woman editor of Udayavani, and is the founder-editor of Kannada feminist web magazine, Hitaishini. She has also translated Kuldip Nayar’s Beyond the Lines: An Autobiography into Kannada. She also established publishing house Vikasa Prakashana in 2013, which has published many books including autobiographies of singer HR Leelavati and political leader C Motamma. She is the recipient of several awards including the Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha award for Excellence in Writing in Kannada last year.
