The countdown begins for the Network of Women in Media, India’s 19th National Meet in Guwahati from 31 January-2 February 2025. This year’s theme is ‘Media, Conflict, Climate Change: Impact on Women’. More than 200 women mediapersons from across the country will come together to discuss and debate media issues, and strengthen the network’s solidarity.
On the agenda are panel discussions and discussions on Regional Media, Reporting on and from the NorthEast, Women Shaping Cinema, Child Marriage, and Mental Health and Well-Being in Journalism. There will also be workshops on Safety while Reporting, Independent Journalism, Designing a Future in Journalism, and Reporting on Wildlife in India.
The public meeting on 1 February 2025 will explore the main theme, ‘Media, Conflict, Climate Change: Impact on Women’, and will be held at the NEDFi House, Dispur, Guwahati at 3.30 pm. Journalist and author Sanjoy Hazarika, social work professional and activist Monisha Behal, journalist and human rights activist Tongam Rina and assistant professor at Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya Kamal Kumar Tanti will be speaking at this discussion, moderated by journalist Durba Ghosh. Award winning environmentalist and biologist Purnima Devi Burman will also be making a special presentation on the Hargila Story, detailing conservation efforts of Assam’s all-women Hargila Army and their work to protect the endangered greater adjutant stork.
