This election season has been unusual on many fronts. I don’t
remember another Indian election during which personal relationships
were brought to centre stage in quite the way they have been focussed
on this time around, with social media adding to the clamour.
Paromita Vohra’s column, headlined “Tumhara pyar pyar, humara pyar
controversy,” foregrounds the gender-related implications of the
commentary around two of these relationships (one actually a
non-relationship), especially in terms of what it reveals about
attitudes towards women, love and sex. Writing in her characteristic,
