Veteran journalist Sandhya Taksale, one of the founder members of the NWMI, was conferred the Marathi Ratna Award on February 28, 2021, Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din.

The award, instituted 20 years ago by the Marathi Bhasha Samvardhan Pratishthan, was jointly given to Sandhya Taksale, Bhanu Kale and Rasika Rathiwdekar, in recognition of their unique contribution towards the Marathi language.

Sandhya is senior editor with Pratham Books which publishes books for children in multiple Indian Languages. With more than 35 years of experience in media and publishing, Sandhya was editor of Saptahik Sakal. Sandhya, having started her career with Stree and Kirloskar magazines, has worked with the legendary feminist journalist Vidya Bal.
