NWMI Mourns the Passing of Journalist Sonal Kellogg
The Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI) is shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the sudden death of our member and colleague. Sonal Kellogg breathed her last on 9 January 2026 after a brief illness. An insatiable thirst for life, an unmissable laughter, a persevering journalist, a passionate champion of child rights and survivors of child sexual abuse, and a woman with too many funny bones: that does not even describe the Sonal we all loved.
Sonal was one of the founder members of NWMI, a regular presence at the network’s National Meets. She surprised us all in her avatar as stand-up comedian. She had around 25 years of experience in print and digital media, including stints at The Indian Express, The Asian Age and DNA. She has written on politics, social issues, sexual abuse and violence, gender issues and development.
Here’s some of the work she has done with NWMI:
She produced this video on the 2025 National Meet in Guwahati: A sneak peak into NWMI’s 19th National Meet, Guwahati, Assam – NWM India
She can also be seen here in this video on the 20th anniversary of NWMI (at 8:19 minutes): 20 Glorious Years: An NWMI production – NWM India
Sonal was a panellist at the 17th National Meeting, Patna for the discussion: What’s “Mainstream” anyway? The role of local and regional media in the media landscape
Sonal wrote this piece for the NWMI’s Gender, Media and Elections section: A record six women from Gujarat in 17th Lok Sabha
Sonal also conceived and anchored this study for NWMI: Panels or Manels? Desperately seeking women in Indian TV news debates
