Tora Agarwala wins International Press Institute India Award
Tora Agarwala, member of the Network of Women in Media, India, and independent journalist, was awarded the International Press Institute India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2024 (Special Appreciation by Jury) earlier this year. She was awarded for her reportage of the ethnic conflict in Manipur in Scroll. Tora’s story published detailed accounts of the sexual violence that women faced during the early days of the violence.
Scroll reported that a day after her report was published, the police filed a first information report in one of the cases, and the Supreme Court ordered an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation of 17 cases of sexual violence against women and children.
