Call for Applications: NWMI Fellowship 2026
This needs-based fellowship supports Indian women and trans women journalists from marginalised and minority communities, working in challenging situations, remote areas, or conflict zones, often without regular pay or proper equipment.
Eligibility: The fellowship is open to…
- Indian women and trans women involved in any aspect of journalism: reporters, editors, sub-editors, photojournalists, video journalists, producers, fact checkers
- Freelance and staff journalists over 18 years; there is no upper age limit
- NWMI members who joined before November 1, 2025
Application Process: Send a note in any language giving the following details:
- Name
- District, state you are working from
- Why you should receive the fellowship and how you plan to utilise it

Stipend: Rs 10,000 per month; a total of Rs 1.2 lakh for 12 months.
Expectations: The fellow is expected to produce four pieces of work for the NWMI website (one every quarter) and contribute to the network’s activities during the fellowship year.
Mentorship: The selected fellow can opt for a mentor to guide them in their professional journey through the fellowship period.
