Listen in to some of our founding members - Ammu Joseph, Kalpana Sharma, Sandhya Taksale, Linda Chhakchhuak, Anjali Mathur and Rajashri Dasgupta recollect how the Network of Women in Media, India came about.

At the year-end virtual gathering of NWMI on 19 December 2020, some of the founding members got together to share the history of the collective, and elaborate on our motto of “Strengthening Solidarity”, in an attempt to put it all on record.

As founding member and journalist, Ammu Joseph puts it, “it wasn’t just an individual (me) dreaming up this creature – it was something that women in the media not only felt but articulated the need for, and which more women in media across the country heartily endorsed. And I think the process we went through between 2000 and 2002 sort of determined the nature of the network: non-hierarchical collective based on volunteerism and consensus.”
