Raksha Kumar is an independent multimedia journalist focusing on politics, gender rights, social injustices and culture. Currently, she is working on a documentary film on the life of the Rationalists in India that has been commissioned by Doordarshan. Apart from working on the concept, script and research of the film, she is doing the camera work and editing as well.
For three years now, she has written for the New York Times, TIME magazine, Al Jazeera, Christian Science Monitor, DAWN, Caravan, The Hindu and South China Morning Post. She has reported from the United States, the UK, India, Oman, UAE, Germany and Poland.
A Fulbright scholar, she graduated from the Journalism School, Columbia University in 2011. Immediately after graduating from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, in 2007, she did a course on Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding from the University of Peace. She is a 2015 Chevening scholar and will spend two months in the University of Westminster researching religion in South Asia.
