The
Indian Youth Climate Network, in conjuction with
the Nature & Biological Sciences Society,
the Friendship Foundation and Global Citizens
for Sustainable Development is putting on the
first ever Indian Youth Summit on Climate Change.
Youth
dialogue on climate change barely exists in India,
despite India being a major emitter of GHGs, and
a preeminent player in the global climate regime.
Young people across India have identified this
absence of youth aspirations on climate change
as a concern, and have decided to hold a national
youth summit on climate change from 7th to 10th
August 2008 in Hyderabad. The aim of the summit
is to provide a platform for youth to define climate
change from their viewpoint and to engage in dialogue
on possible solutions through steadfast and resolute
action, in order to fight climate change and to
propagate the values and principles of sustainable
development.
We have infosys sponsoring our event along with
a range of other organisations supporting us as
well, and hope to present this charter to the
Indian government.
I would like to invite you to attend the event.
The age range restrictions for this event is 16-35.
If you are outside this range, I would like to
encourage you to consider participating as an
observer.
I
also strongly encourage you to forward it this
to all the youth, environmental and social networks
you have. We hope to represent as diverse a range
of young people as possible. We aim to have diversity
in gender, ethnicity, caste, religion and age,
wanting the brightest of India to help shape India's
future.
Attached
is the application form for your viewing and forwarding.
Hope
to hear from you,
Regards,
Deepa Gupta
