Authorities stopped the release of Fragrance of Peace, a collection of poems by social activist Irom Sharmila. Translated into English from Meiteilon (Manipuri), the book was to be released in Imphal during the 10th anniversary of Ms Sarmila's hunger fast for the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958, from Manipur.

Ms Sharmila, who began fast-unto-death after the Assam Rifles killed 10 people at Malom village in Imphal valley in an encounter, completed 10 years of her struggle on November 2011.

In 2010, Ms Sharmila was awarded the Tagore Peace Prize. Indian Institute of Planning and Management founder director M K Choudhury presented the prize to Ms Sharmila at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, where she is lodged and is being fed through the nose by police against her will.

Fragrance of Peace can bought online from the publisher Zubaan at
All proceeds from the sale of this book will go towards supporting Sarmila's campaign.
