Sexual harassment at workplace

Several NWMI members have been involved in evolving legislation to tackle sexual harassment at the workplace. The current draft, an outcome of several rounds of consultations organised by the National Commission for Women, is still under discussion.

  • For the full text of the Prohibition of Sexual Harassment of Women At Workplace Bill, 2010 click here.
  • Until the Bill becomes law, it is the historic Supreme Court judgement of 1997, or the Vishakha Judgement (click here for full text) that is to be treated as law).
  • The order in the 'Medha Kotwal' case in 1999 is also significant as it specifically rules that the Vishakha Judgement shall be incorporated into the Central Civil Services(Conduct) Rules, 1964 and the The Industrial Employment(Standing Orders) Rules. (click here for text of Medha Kotwal order)
