Rupesh Samant denied accreditation for BRICS Summit

The NWMI on October 15, 2016  learnt that journalist Rupesh Samant’s name was struck off the accreditation list for the BRICS Summit in Goa. While his name featured in the list submitted by PTI, the Ministry of External Affairs is believed to have instructed the PIB not to give him the accreditation card. This is a small step towards ensuring that an accused who has been charge-sheeted in four separate complaints of sexual harassment cannot to be allowed to flourish professionally while the investigations are still on. This is especially so given the ease with which he has been able to evade the long arm of the law, intimidate witnesses and influence the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Press Trust of India, which has thus far remained silent on the matter, must press into motion mechanisms of accountability and redress for women who experience sexual harassment and penalise those found guilty rather than promote and encourage their careers.
