National Meet News

Making Gender Count: Towards Visibility, Equity and Safety

Three cold and wintry days in Delhi witnessed the coming together of over a hundred media women from more than 18 states in India, for the 14th national meeting of the Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI) at the sprawling campus of the Jamia Millia Islamia. This was the first time the national meeting was being held in the capital city after the very first national meeting of women in media in 2002, at the end of which the NWMI was launched. The meeting, which was held in collaboration with the Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Milia Islamia,  included sessions on community media; covering the elections; reporting the less reported and internal sessions for network members. Breakout workshops on data journalism; publishing books; climate change and tech-primer were held on one afternoon. A public meeting, ‘Building on #MeToo in Indian Media’ was followed by a kathak recital on women’s identity.
